Buying birthday presents for someone can be overwhelming. Even more so when the receiver of the gifts is a 3-year old toddler going on pre-schooler. Where do you even begin when choosing gifts for them without buying pointless items that just clutter up their rooms? The aim here is to pick the gifts mindfully so that the gifts add some sort of benefit to their lives. I have included a few ideas that you could try out.

Educational Toys
With birthday presents for toddlers and pre-school children, it’s important to have a variety of different toys. In addition to fun toys that they can just play with, you can definitely have a think about gifting some educational toys. 3-year old toddlers and preschoolers are at a stage in their lives where everything they see, touch and hear soaks up into their brains like a sponge and they are constantly learning. That’s why we should encourage more learning with toys that push their imagination and learning that little bit further.
Playmobil
PLAYMOBIL Educational Learning toys are a great example of this. We were kindly sent Playmobil’s 1,2,3 Range as a gift for my toddler which he absolutely loves playing with. What I love about the PLAYMOBIL 1.2.3 range is that little children (from 1.5 years to 4 years old) are given a variety of themes and features to play with helping them explore and understand the world through play. You can rest assured that they are playing and developing their skills at the same time, including fine motor skills, language, creativity, cognitive and social skills.
Each set teaches children at a different age different things:
- Easy Start: In beginner sets with simple figures, the learning focus is on feeling and exploring, imitating animal sounds, and naming figures, animals and objects. Where is the rider? And how does the horse do?
- First Challenge: In extended playsets, the learning focus is on exploring first functions, promoting fine motor skills and understanding cause-and-effect relationships. For example: What happens when you pull the string?
- Little Expert: In advanced playsets, there are many functions to discover. The learning focus is on more complex contexts, social skills and first role play. What do children experience in nursery today?
The set we were gifted included the Police Officer and dog, My Take-Along Preschool and the Dog Train Car – these gave my little toddler and preschooler hours of exploring and fun.
