How ethical is your beauty routine? More and more companies are getting on board with the benefits of sustainable products. The awakening of the beauty industry’s consciousness regarding how products are impacting the world around is welcoming no matter how small the changes are.

There has never been a better time to make those ethical changes concerning your own personal beauty routine. And the best part is that not only are eco-friendly products better for the environment, but they are also better for you and our bank balance.
Bars not Bottles
520 million shampoo bottles are discarded each year. Toothpaste tubes are pretty much at the same level too. How many shampoo and conditioner bottles do you go through each year, and do you actively recycle them when possible? Take this a step further by choosing shampoo bars, not bottles. Bars lather up as a bar of soap would, and you can get more from your bar than you would in your bottle too.
Sustainable Period Products
Not strictly beauty related; however an essential part of every woman’s beauty and healthcare routine. Make the switch to reusable or eco-friendly sanitary pads and tampons or use period alternative products such as period-proof underwear or menstrual cups. Sanitary pads take many, many years to break down, and each person will use around 350 packs of pads in their life on average.

No Wipes or Cotton Wool Pads
There is no need in this day and age to keep on buying single-use products. Noto only are they predominantly wrapped in plastic, but they are wasteful for both your finances and for the world around us. Buy reusable pads that you can wash instead of using cotton wall balls or pads and use face clothes instead of wipes to cleanse your face and remove makeup.

Choose Wisely
You can exchange items for other products that contain environmentally friendly elements. Even though the components are just as effective on the skin, they positively influence the environment. The Fair Trade and Rainforest Alliance emblems on the packaging indicate that the ingredients are environmentally friendly and ethically produced.
You don’t have to swap out all of your skincare products at once. As one product begins to run out, look for alternatives that contain sustainable ingredients and environmentally friendly packaging. Try out test samples, and then replace the product when the old one is no longer effective.
When making sustainable swaps, make sure you use everything you currently own before replacing it with more eco-conscious products. If you don’t, you condemn perfectly usable items to landfills negating the good you are trying to do. So take your time, use what you already own, and then replace it with sustainable alternatives when the time comes to replace them.
