SILVER CROSS PIONEER TRAVEL PRAM SYSTEM – the most dependable pram and travel system I could have wished for. Baby M and I love this pram by @silvercrossuk I had bought it whilst pregnant with my first son and was over the moon with excitement. I couldn’t wait to use it. I made my husband open and set it up for me the moment the delivery man brought it in. It looked great. As a child (and adult) I have had a love for prams/strollers/pushchairs. I never actually had a toy pram and most probably this is why. Yes, all adult issues stem from childhood (say the psychiatrists!). I have always wanted a cute little pram like the ones I saw on Tom & Jerry which look exactly like the original coach-styled prams created by Silver Cross back in 1877 by William Wilson! The iconic and royalty-favourite English-heritage pram.

The modern pram and travel system is pretty cool I must say. In the package, I bought I had two colourways – black (or how they like to call it “Onyx”) and Vintage blue. It’s just the right kind of shade of blue – not too light not too dark. So that gives them their first point! Now let’s dive in into the main points of this pram.
A review of the Silver Cross Pioneer Travel System
The Chassis
💙 The Silver Cross Pioneer Travel System Pram comes with a stylish chrome chassis with 4 large multi-terrain wheels which makes using it both in the city and in the countryside easy. According to the Silver Cross website, the 2018 edition comes with “never-wear, puncture-proof tyres for longevity and performance”.
💙 The Silver Cross Pioneer Travel System Pram is more or less easy to fold which I could do it myself when I was out without hubby. Only issue I would raise here is that this is not a travel pushchair. Yes, it folds at the press of a button and straightaway. However, it is heavy and bulky so I wouldn’t recommend you take it with you on your travels. Also, it probably wouldn’t be taken up to the gate and would need to be check-in. For a travel stroller, I have the Silver Cross Reflex which I love. I will put together a blog post review.
💙 In carrycot mode or rear-facing tandem mode, the pram needs to be taken apart into 2 parts when folding, so takes up a lot of room. The only time it folds with the seat unit attached, is when the Pioneer is forward-facing. For travel, we take the Silver Cross Reflex. If you’re looking for a stroller that is great for travelling with on aeroplanes, check out this blog post!
💙 I love the handle-bar. The material is soft and feels great even after using it for a few hours at a time. Some strollers/ prams hurt your hands but not with the Silver Cross Pioneer Travel System Pram. The bumper bar is also great and most of the time easy to unlock with a push of a button – but in carrycot mode, it can get a little stuck underneath the apron (if using it with the apron).
DIMENSIONS:
L90cm W60cm H98-107cm
FOLDED DIMENSIONS:
L86cm W60cm H34cm
CHASSIS WEIGHT:
7.5kg
The Carrycot
💙 The carrycot is suitable for newborns and babies up to 6 months (or at least until they can sit up on their own). The carrycot is safe enough for babies to sleep in overnight which is a great bonus as we used it as a cot bed when away from home for my first son when he was a baby!
💙 One thing to mention here is that the carrycot is not too wide so if your baby is slightly larger then the norm (which both of mine are) then they will grow out of it earlier then the recommended age/ weight.
💙 But the carrycot is long so it’s great for longer babies (again both of mine were) so there is plenty of room to grow lengthwise.
The Tandem Seat
💙 The Silver Cross Pioneer Travel System Pram has a reversible pushchair seat unit which provides quite a lot of space for fast-growing toddlers. The weight limit on the pushchair seat is actually 25kg which is amazing as most take less, and that doesn’t work with us as my little one is 17kg at 20 months.
💙 We used the tandem seat with my firstborn from about 4/5 months as he outgrew the cot (yes he was a chunky little angel) a little too quickly. This was actually ok to do as the seat has 3 recline positions and we used it on the lowest option allowing him to basically be lying down. We fully reclined the seat to a sitting position from about 12 months when all he wanted was to sit up!
💙 The tandem-seat can be turned facing mummy – which I think I loved a little too much even when Micheal outgrew this stage – and also forward-facing so your little one can see the world 🙈 ⠀⠀
The Basket
💙 The extra-large, deep basket allows you to store quite a lot of items in it which I just love as we always seem to have a lot with us when we go out especially now with 2 in tow! How is it possible to need to take so much stuff with you. I think I will make it a challenge to reorganise my diaper bag and rethink everything we usually take. That way I can have all the stuff I actually need without all the clutter. Plus it seems I always end up forgetting to take a few items every single time we go out. Why oh why!⠀

The 10 -piece bundle currently available at Silver Cross cannot get any better and for £995 (in black or silver) includes the following items. This is such an amazing deal and perfect for a new parent. You get everything from one purchase that you would need in a travel system for taking out your little one. This bundle deal is better than what I ended up getting. I never did get the Silver Cross diaper bag (she says whilst crying inside).
The Simplicity Car Seat
💙 The Silver Cross Pioneer Travel System Pram can be used with the Simplicity Car Seat and adaptors. This came with our package plus the Simplifix base which is the safest way to travel with the Simplicity car seat.
💙 I love this car seat. It is cute and handy when your baby has plumped up a bit and fits into it comfortably. When they are newborns it seems very uncomfortable. Their heads roll to the side and over their necks and I swear I felt like my children couldn’t breathe whilst in it. Obviously, they could just it looked that they were very unhappy in it. With Baby M, I purchased the Newborn Insert which I literally only used a couple of times and he outgrew it. This accessory is sold separately so I wouldn’t really recommend it if your newborn is growing very fast. Otherwise, it’s great and supports them up for an easy journey.

The Hood
💙 The Silver Cross Pioneer Travel System Pram comes with a good sturdy hood that lowers all the way down and has a UV protection pop-out visor to protect your little one’s eyes and face from the sun. This is a good function as it means Baby M can nap without sunlight falling into his eyes and disturbing him.
💙 There is also a mesh ventilation system which I loved as it kept my babies cool and comfortable even when it was very hot outside (my eldest was the lucky summer baby of the two).
Conclusion
All in all, I LOVE this pushchair. The Silver Cross Pioneer Travel System Pram has gone with me everywhere with my two little angels and I couldn’t be happier. It is well built, beautiful and looks great from the side. The Pioneer Pram rides well and pushes easily. It is durable and safe so it ticks all my boxes. I can take this pram on public transport when it is not too busy as otherwise, it will be a little too tight for the small tube spaces or buses, especially if there is another pram or stroller already parked.
Yes, it is pricey but I believe that it’s the standard price you pay for a travel system. Plus my bundle package cam with great accessories that it made the price very much worth it. Now that I look around at other brands, Silver Cross is actually well priced for the quality that it produces. I would say it is truly value for money.

I went through 3 different strollers when my daughter was little. My decisions were often made by the cup holders as my girl got bigger. So much stuff to carry. This one looks much more advanced than what I had. Can’t wait to shop for my granddaughter some day.
Thanks so much for reading. I thought long and hard before buying it – a little pricey but very much worth it and the bundle price actually makes it acceptable 😊
