Using natural products you find in the kitchen is not only great for cooking your healthy meals with: they are also great for beauty routines too. One great example of this is Olive Oil. It is used around the world to cook up pretty much any dish and adds not only flavour but also many health benefits to your dish. There are also great uses of olive oil as part of your daily or weekly beauty skincare routine.

Ultimate Beauty Guide: 7 Uses of Olive Oil
Olive oil contains a lot of vitamins, minerals and natural fatty acids. It’s definitely a great ingredient for sensitive skin and anti-ageing skincare products. It’s rich in antioxidants and prevents skin ageing including the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It also has the power to nourish, rejuvenate and protect the skin.
Olive oil is rich in vitamin E and A allowing which is great for maintaining younger-looking, hydrated skin as it maintains its elasticity and softness. Olive oil is also great for regenerating skin cells, this ensures your skin stays younger for longer.
There are many benefits of using olive oil in your skincare routine, and here are my favourite uses of olive oil:
1. Facial Cleanser
Firstly, olive oil can be used to remove stubborn makeup with a solution of filtered water and olive oil. Simply combine ⅓ cup water and 1-2 teaspoons of olive oil in a small bottle. Shake and then dab lightly onto a cotton pad and remove all your eye makeup and foundation by swiping up, finishing with a cleanser and moisturiser.
2. Eye Lash & Brow Moisturiser
Number 2 in our list of great uses for olive oil, is to strengthen and lengthen your lashes and brows. Lightly soak an earbud in olive oil (not oo much – and squeeze and excess oil out) and dab it onto your eyelashes and eyebrows just before bed. In the morning, just wash your face with your every-day cleanser.
3. Face Mask
You can use olive oil to make a face mask: you will need olive oil, egg and honey (for a quick boost of vitamin c and antioxidants, use a dash of lemon juice. Honey has many antibacterial properties, and it also helps to keep your pores free of oil and dirt. Egg gives moisture to the skin and tightens pores. All you need to do is mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl and apply the mixture to your face evenly (taking care not to put too close to the eye area). Leave it on for at least 15 minutes (meanwhile doing some home chores or catching up on Insta) and rinse it off with warm water. Apply your usual moisturiser afterwards and enjoy your soft glowing skin. This is one of my favourite uses of olive oil.
4. Nail & Hand Treatment
You can use olive oil as a nail and hand treatment as it softens and moisturises your cuticles. Just use a few drops of olive oil to rub onto each nail for about 2/3 minutes allowing the oil to absorb. The moisture will help prevent cracking and helps to promote growth. Use a few extra drops to moisturise your hands, slowly massaging each finger, the palms and the tops of your hands and elbows too. People tend to neglect the elbows and these areas are the driest.

5. Exfoliating Body Scrub
Another great benefit of using olive oil is that it can be used to create an exfoliant for rough skin with a homemade salt scrub. To create this salt scrub just mix coarse sea salt with olive oil and massage around your body focusing on your elbows, knees, thighs, legs and heels for 1-2 minutes and then rinse off in a warm shower.
6. Nourishing Sugar Lip Scrub
Olive oil can also be used to create a sugar scrub for your lips. People always forget about exfoliating the lips. It’s very important to nourish your lips to keep them nourished and soft. Just combine 1 tablespoon of brown sugar with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and apply the mixture onto your lips and massage gently. Leave on for a few minutes and then wash off with warm water.

7. Hair Treatment Mask
I love using olive oil for hair treatments. I find they provide a deep conditioning treatment, especially during the summer and winter months when your hair is drier and worn out. Mix ⅓ cup of your regular conditioner with 2-3 teaspoons of olive oil. Starting at the scalp, apply the mixture through your hair working towards the ends. I leave it on for about 1-2 hours under a thick scarf/ heavy towel (to preserve the heat allowing the olive oil to absorb better). Then I wash it out as I would normally wash my hair.
Another recipe for a hair mask is to mix one egg yolk with two tablespoons of olive oil and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Keep this mask on your hair for about 1-2 hours then shampoo and condition. Your hair should be shinier and softer.
