Buying a new home is stressful enough without even thinking about the moving process. Moving home comes with many happy memories as you set up a new home for yourself and your family. However, with happy times comes a lot of stress when it comes to moving house.
One of the best tips I can offer whenever you are moving home is to DECLUTTER! There are many benefits to decluttering and organising your home before you move especially during the selling, preparing and unpacking process.

Selling your current home
When selling your current home before a house move you want to find a buyer easily. One of the best ways to do this is by staging your home to make your home look more appealing.
Most buyers want to see a decluttered home where they can see the house in its true minimalistic state. Home Staging allows potential buyers to get a true feeling of the home in all its best features. Staging also highlights and exaggerates the house’s features to help sell the house faster. You are effectively creating the home of the buyer’s dreams!
You don’t necessarily have to go minimalistic, but it helps when a family arrive to view your home, to give them an understanding of the space and size available. This is achievable when you remove or put things away.
Some examples include clear kitchen worktops, a welcoming hallway and organised toys! As a mum with 2 small boys with A LOT of toys, I would instantly fall in love with a house where there is a great storage solution for toys. It’s something I strive for every day and the sellers have shown me what I could have if I buy this house.

Preparing for your house move
Before you move home you must declutter your current house. Moving stuff that you don’t use or need is a waste of time, money and space. It is much easier to organise your new home when you have fewer things and everything has been categorised beforehand.
There is no need to move clothes your child no longer fits in, dinnerware that is chipped and books no one reads. This will just take up precious space in your moving van, cost you more money, incur more moving and packing time plus be a headache at your new home.
Moving home is a perfect time (and reason) to have that long overdue clear out of all your unused and old items. It’s a great chance to start fresh!

Moving into your new home
This process should be the most seamless. It’s important to make moving house as smooth as possible. One of the best tips to achieve this is to ensure that you do not leave any boxes unpacked.
It’s easy to move your boxes to one room and leave them to sit there for a few days, weeks, months or even years. You want your new home to be yours straight away.
Unload the boxes from the moving van into their corresponding room from the outset. Pro tip: label each box with a number and keep a running list of each box number under its corresponding room of your new house.

For example Boxes 1-5 are to go in the kitchen. It’s important that the movers are aware of this system and load the boxes together so that when it comes to unloading they know which boxes go in which room.

What’s the number 1 thing you need help with for your next house move?
Til next time

Before a move would be the best time to declutter! You are going through everything anyway and can create piles to send to the trash and to donate as you box up the rest.
That is 100% correct! 👏🏻
